Ham Wall Day Trip
Join us to explore Ham Wall, Shapwick Heath and surrounding areas looking for the delights that Somerset has to offer! Our main targets will be migrants and breeding birds.
Event begins at 9am meeting at the RSPB Ham Wall car park, and last until 5pm.
Please ensure you wear suitable footwear and a pack lunch is essential.
Beginning our morning at Ham Wall RSPB, we’ll take a walk around the site listening for morning singing birds hoping to see such birds as Cetti’s Warblers and Bearded Tit. Walking around the reserve, we’ll be keeping our eyes and heard open for the delights that Ham Wall brings looking among the reeds for birds such as Great Egret, Bittern, Grey Heron, Garganey among a few.
One of our targets will be the difficult birds such as Cattle Egret, Hobby, Glossy Ibis and the potential for interesting birds nearby which in recent years has proved to be Little Bittern, Purple Heron and Black-crowned Night Heron.
After our walk at Ham Wall, we’ll pop over to Shapwick Heath NNR to look for additional species that we may not have seen at Ham Wall. This can include Little Bittern, Black-crowned Night Heron, Purple Heron and Glossy Ibis.
