Pembrokeshire Marine

Experience one of the best marine zones in the UK with a unique perspective!

Binoculars, snorkel and wetsuit are essential – rental is available.

The week includes breakfast and evening meals, lunch is not provided but we will make stops.
Drinks are excluded.
There may be some long days and some early starts.

Overview:

Day One: Hotel arrival around 2-3pm before a short excursion to a nearby reserve.

Day Two: Stackpole Head and Stackpole Warren
Exploring the beautiful clifftops of Stackpole head visiting the several different nesting sea bird colonies including Fulmar, Guillemots and Razorbills, we will also be looking out for Chough as this is a great location to spot these charismatic birds. This site is also very popular with butterflies and we will be looking out for Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary, Small Blue, Silver-studded Blue and other butterflies.

Day Three: Marine Snorkel Safari – we will join the team from Celtic Deep on a marine safari offshore. Ensure we are prepared for water based activities before we embark on the boat heading for Skomer Island. We will spend a couple of hours enjoying snorkelling around Skomer with the Puffins and other auks, before then taking a trip towards the kelp beds to snorkel looking for sea fish and mating Spider Crabs.

Day Four: A respite from boat journeys for the day as we head to St Govan’s head to enjoy the coastal birds; Fulmar, Gannet, Kittiwakes and Auks before heading to a local cafe for our lunch stop. After our lunch break, we will head to the nearby Bosherston Lily ponds to enjoy Dragonflies, damselflies and our first chance of seeing Otters.

Day Five: Beginning our day, we will embark on a dolphin cruise around Cardigan Bay to look for Common Dolphin and Bottlenosed Dolphins as well as seabirds. Our lunch stop will be one of many fantastic local cafes on the harbour itself, afterwards we will visit a nearby Teifi Marshes look for Otters, as well as bird life such as Sedge Warblers, Reed Warblers, Cetti’s Warblers and more.

Day Six: Our morning will begin at St Davids enjoying some respite and shopping before heading to Dowrog Common to look for Lesser Butterfly Orchid and Heath-Spotted Orchid, it is also a great site for butterflies and dragonflies. Afterwards there is the option of visiting Strumble Head to look for Harbour Porpoise and Sunfish or whether guests wish to return to the hotel to begin their journeys home.
