Red Kite Special
In this day trip, we visit Gigrin Farm in Rhayader for an exclusive day filled with the most fantastic wildlife experience as well as learning how to set your camera for the perfect shot in our exclusive use hide. In this day we have exclusive use of the facilities, including cake and hot/cold drinks whilst having our talk about the history of Red Kites before entering the private use hide for the best view for our group.
Day begins at 12:30 at Gigrin Farm, Rhayader and lasts until 5pm.
Suitable for children and those with disabilities.
Firstly, we’ll meet in the car park before moving onto some cake and hot/cold drinks whilst we get get to know our group. We will then move to an area to enjoy some tea and cake (cold alternatives are available on request) while we learn about the history and conservation of Red Kites in Wales. After we enjoy our tea and cake, it’s then time to relocate to our exclusive use hide where we will learn more about the Red Kite and its behaviour, as well as what makes the area particularly great for the species. Once in the hide, it’s time to learn about making the most out of your camera should you wish to – guidance to the best settings, angles and composition whilst admiring the spectacle of hundreds of Kites in front of us, otherwise settle yourself in for the spectacle to begin. Among the Kites, there will be a variety of additional species to look out for such as Common Buzzards, Ravens, Carrion Crows, Jackdaws and Rooks – we may even be lucky enough to see a leucistic Kite! Throughout the feeding frenzy of Kites, we will have the chance to look for any Kites with wing tags on them and using our guides, we can attempt to locate where these birds have been tagged at.
